Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were notified by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for details.

A senior official commented the incident made him without words and required to be resolved promptly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
